Purveyors Of Fine Straps
Molequin is a highly interesting company offering a range of leather products, most notably fine watch straps. Based out of Brussels in Belgium, they offer uncompromising quality & unparalleled service to watch connoisseurs around the globe.
Working with the best tanneries in the world, Molequin develops and produces all their collections in Belgium and France. All of their leather is acquired from ethical sources that can be traced back to origin. We choose our favourite five straps to wear with both dress and sport watches.
Calf skin comes in a multitude of different qualities. Molequin calf skin has been double tanned and soaked in a mixture of oils to produce a buttery smooth, soft and supple leather. The quality of the leather allows it to hold colours better than most and lasts much longer and is less prone to fading.
Grained calf skin is exceptional as a very robust leather that is possible to cut very thin. Despite this, the strap remain resilient and hold its form well over normal usage. The leather deals well with scratches and is also easy to care for and can be cleaned with a simple wipe using a damp cloth.
Suede is a beautifully soft part of the skin to work with and produces straps that are probably the most comfortable on the wrist. Suede provides the ultimate casual weekend look with some great colours that are just not viable with a lot of other skins.
Shell Cordovan has a very tight membrane and no grain structure. The irregular shaped shells are tanned, hot stuffed, shaved and polished, a process taking at least six months. The final process involves the hand application of dyes and glazing to create that trademark deep glossy aniline finish.
Alligator skins stand out for their exceptional softness and flexibility. The lack of calcium in the skin leaves the tanned hide incredibly soft, with a butter-like suppleness. This allows alligator skin to bend easily without creasing. Alligator has just about every quality you would need for the perfect strap.
